Healthy Skin Swaps: Hand + Surface Spray

Healthy Skin Swaps: Hand + Surface Spray

Have you looked at the ingredients in your hand sanitizer lately? What about the ingredients for products you use to clean your phone, or your steering wheel or other small surfaces that you come in contact with regularly? Would you want to lick your phone or steering wheel after using them? Sounds a little silly, but the point is, what we touch gets transferred and absorbed and even ingested in small amounts.

We believe that hand washing with soap and water is still the best solution, but sometimes, you don’t have that option. Before you reach for a sanitizer and cover your hands with it, read the label and be informed about what you are putting on your body.

Recently we launched our brand new Hand + Surface Spray, in two versions; Lemon/Lavender and Peppermint. These are new additions to our “home” collection that launched at the end of last year with multi-purpose aromatherapy oil blends and a candle.

When creating our Hand + Surface Spray, we began by searching for the highest quality alcohol we could find. It had to be certified organic, sourced and produced sustainably. We were thrilled to get our hands on 190 proof ethyl alcohol that was certified organic, Non-GMO, vegan, gluten free. This ingredient would be the primary ingredient in our formula and we wanted it to be the best we could source.

Distilled water, certified organic glycerin and the same exceptional quality certified organic essential oils make up the rest of the formula. That’s it. True to our promise, all ingredients that can be grown and processed organically are, the only ingredient that isn’t is the distilled water.

As parents, we were already diligent about washing hands and yelling “don’t touch that!” to our kids in public places, but this pandemic has highlighted how easily germs can spread. We cringe at the conventional hand sanitizers laden with mystery ingredients, and reeking of artificial fragrance. So we set out to make something we feel good about using ourselves and on our kiddos and that is effective without being harsh or drying. But we don’t want you to stop there. Our vision for this product has been for it to be a staple in your purse or diaper bag, gym bag and school backpack. Something to use for small surfaces that you touch regularly like your phone and tech, to spray on your steering wheel or yoga mat, kid’s toys and gear.

Why should we care so much about creating a quality organic hand sanitizer? Here are a few things to consider:

-> Your hands touch everything, including your face and mouth (not only talking about kids here folks!)

-> Some ingredients are absorbed through the skin - children’s skin and mature skin are thinner and more vulnerable.

-> Organic and sustainably grown and processed ingredients are better for the environment and wildlife.

-> Many large cosmetics companies still test their products or ingredients on innocent animals.

-> Mystery ingredients like “fragrance” can include hundreds of potentially toxic, irritating or allergy inducing ingredients.

-> Why use ingredients that are unnecessary to the actual effectiveness of the product?

DISCLAIMER: We know that beneficial bacteria supports our immune systems, and that hand washing with soap and water is still preferred over a sanitizer. This post was not meant to put down another brand, but to help you make an informed decision about what products you use on your body or for those you love.

The Hand and Surface spray is good in my bedroom that provides sleeping space for the four legged beings. It is sprayed over the bedding just to dispel the stale smells since the natural eo’s are a great combination, lemon and lavender. Then, in the bathroom surfaces and an easy swipe with paper towels that are added to the trash. Can we get 16 ounce refills for the spray bottles? I want to use lots more!
